Android – Troubleshooting GPS/Location Services

If you are using an Android device and having an issue with Location Services (GPS) determining your location, here are some tips to help you understand and troubleshoot the issue:

  • Verify that you have a cellular or Wi-Fi network connection. This allows the GPS on the device to locate visible GPS satellites faster, in addition to providing initial location information using the Wi-Fi or cellular networks.
  • Maintain a clear view of the horizon in several directions. Keep in mind that walls, vehicle roofs, tall buildings, mountains, and other obstructions can block line of sight to GPS satellites.

If GPS is unable to find your location, try:

  1. Typing in the address you are searching for manually under Home > Search by Address
  2. Or, if you are inside a building – step out side, and try “Use My Location” again

Common Issue: When pressing “Use My Location” it would always go to Tulsa, OK

This often happens if there is a problem with the GPS Satellite signal in transmission, and it is unable to find your location. GPS satellite transmission starts in Tulsa, OK. If your GPS satellite signal is weak, it will get hung up at the starting point. If you are inside a building, please step outside, and re-try “Use My Location”.
